Cemented sockets:
The cemented sockets have been the traditional technique and essentially there
is no major difference when this type of implant is used in the revision situation
when compared with the primary hip replacement case. Of course, as the cavity
of bony socket is likely to be larger due to bone loss caused by the failure of
the initial implant and also from unavoidable damage during removal of the component,
more cement is used to pack and fill up the defects. The UHMWPE socket is then
inserted into the cement and held in positon while it hardens.
